As an Android user, I’m always on the lookout for the next big thing in smartwatches. And it seems OnePlus is ready to step up to the plate with their new OnePlus Watch 2, a potential rival for the Galaxy Watch 6.

I’ve been hearing whispers about this new launch at MWC 2024, and now, OnePlus has finally started dropping hints. They’ve posted a teaser image on the OnePlus community, playfully challenging us to guess wrong about what the product might be. But let’s be honest, it’s not exactly a mystery.

The teaser image aligns perfectly with the leaked renders of the OnePlus Watch 2 that I came across last year. The button housing is particularly distinctive, and the protruding edge on the right side of the device is hard to miss.

While the official teaser image has a certain polish and character that the leaked renders lack, those leaks gave me a pretty good idea of what to expect from the device. It’s set to be showcased at MWC 2024, which is just around the corner.

Max Jambor, a well-known leaker, suggests that the OnePlus Watch 2 could possibly launch on February 24, 2024.

I remember when the original OnePlus Watch launched in 2021. It was more of a simplistic fitness tracker with a large display rather than a proper smartwatch. It lacked a smart OS with an app store and ran on a proprietary OS comparable to RTOS.

But with the OnePlus Watch 2, it seems OnePlus is stepping up their game. They’re expected to use Wear OS for a proper smartwatch experience that can stand toe-to-toe with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 and the Pixel Watch 2. And if it comes with the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip as expected, it’s shaping up to be a serious contender in the smartwatch market. I can’t wait to see it in action.
