OnePlus 5/5T receives second Android Pie update, promises stable Wi-Fi and fixes random reboots

OnePlus’s old flagships, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, is now receiving its second Android Pie update. This time though, there are no new features added. The new update aims to fix the bugs that came along with its first Android Pie roll-out.

The new OxygenOS 9.0.1 promises more stable Wi-Fi connectivity for the OnePlus 5/5T users. Users have been complaining of poor Wi-Fi connection on their OnePlus device after the first Android Pie update. This new roll-out will be able to fix that problem.

The changelog also mentioned about the optimized sRGB mode. The sRGB mode has been a common feature for the OnePlus phones since the OnePlus 3. This mode allows your display to show a more accurate colors, although it sometimes tend to yellow the whites. With the new update, OnePlus offers optimazation with this feature.

The Reading mode, OnePlus’ one of the many best features, will also receive an optimization. Reading mode simply turns the display to greyscale, imitating the e-paper displays found on e-readers. Another feature that will receive some fixes are the 4G VoLTE (which toggle was gone missing after the first Pie update), and also the random reboots when Screen Casting is performed.

Users facing issues with these features are required to install the update. However, since this is a phased roll-out, some will still have to wait for the OxygenOS 9.0.1 to be available via OTA. Of course, data charges apply.

The OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T were both two flagships devices of the company for 2017. They both run on OxygenOS 5.1.4, which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The two phones also have a similar SoCs under the hood. The flagship Snapdragon 835 is coupled with either 6/8GB of RAM, and up to 128GB of expandable storage.

On the front, the OnePlus 5 uses a 5.5-inch optic AMOLED display with full HD resolution. It is on 16:9 aspect ratio though, compared to the more modern 18:9 of the 6.01-inch full HD+ display on the OnePlus 5t. Although both were protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

For the imaging, both has almost similar setup. The rear has 16+20-megapixel cameras, while the front employs 16-megapixel module for selfies. The main difference is the wider f/1.7 aperture on the main rear camera of the 5T versus the dimmer f/2.6 of the OnePlus 5. Both offers gyro-EIS for smoother videos.
