Install Android P [DP2] on OnePlus 6 Official [Download link added]

As the Android 9.0 DP2 firmware did get leaked on the web, OnePlus decided to make it official, thus, making the official changelog available to the users. It looks like:

• Face unlock issue fixed on Android 9.0
• Improved App compatibility on Android P.
• The camera app is more stable. Thus, we can expect that it shouldn’t crash now!

Issues with this build include

• Wi-Fi SoftAP device manager is a no-go
• Portrait mode is still not working in the camera app
• Issues with Widevine L1

It was back in March that Google launched the first developer preview of Android P. Then at the I/O 2018, the first public beta of the OS came up alongside the second developer preview. The story isn’t like before anymore, and Android P beta is not only confined to Google Pixels. All thanks to Project Treble! Thus, it makes it possible for the non-Google users to enjoy the beta version of Android P on their respective devices. OnePlus users too belong to the same group!

The popularity of OnePlus One, OnePlus 3/3T, and OnePlus 5/5T made it to the outgoing Android Oreo’s beta program. If you have got a OnePlus 6 in your hand and you want to install Android P beta on your device, here’s how you would do it.

How to install Android P beta on OnePlus 6

Note: Make sure that you have taken a back up of everything you need since it will delete everything from your device.

1. At first, download the Android P DP2 update file.
2. In case you have downloaded it using a PC or a laptop, transfer it to your OnePlus 6 storage (not inside any folder or subfolder).
3. Now, transfer it to the root directory (not inside any folder or subfolder) of the internal storage of your OnePlus 6. You may also choose to use a file manager and move the file using it (the copy will be a little slower).
4. Install the Android P update.
5. Open the Settings app on your OnePlus 6.
6. Then, tap on System updates > top right corner icon > Local upgrade > tap on the update file > > Install now.
7. Your device will commence installing the Android P update now. Wait till it finishes. Once you get it done, DO NOT restart the phone, rather shift on to the next step.
8. Perform a factory reset on your OnePlus 6.
9. Next, boot your OnePlus 6 into recovery mode.
10. Now, power off the device.
11. Then, press and hold Volume down and Power buttons together for about 8-10 seconds. Your OnePlus 6 will boot into recovery mode.
12. Make use of the volume buttons to scroll to the Recovery mode option and then select it by pressing the Power button.
13. Now, move the highlight to Wipe data/factory reset option. Use the volume buttons and then click the power button to select it.
14. Select Yes on the screen to confirm the factory reset.
15. As you complete it, restart the device by selecting the Reboot system option.
